The International Cooperation Department of the Volga Region University of Sport and Tourism organized an information session for the university's international students. Natalia Abrosimova, Head of the Educational Institution Liaison Division at the Center for Social and Cultural Adaptation of Foreign Nationals in the Republic of Tatarstan, outlined key aspects of migration legislation, including filling out migration cards, extending one's stay in Russia, and complying with visa regulations.
Students were reminded of the rules for obtaining a temporary residence permit for educational purposes and were informed that such a permit could be revoked following two or more administrative offenses or upon expulsion from the university. They also learned about opportunities for graduates holding a residence permit to obtain Russian citizenship through a simplified process.
Additionally, the students were shown a video covering Russian behavioral norms, culture, traditions, and laws to help them adapt more quickly to their new environment, as many of them are visiting the country for the first time.
“This year, 87 international students from 18 countries are studying at the Volga Region University. Many of them plan to remain in Russia in the future, which makes events like this very important for them. They can not only learn useful and up-to-date information regarding the rules for staying in our country, but also ask an expert any questions they may have in person,” stated Alsu Galimzyanova, a leading specialist in the university’s International Cooperation Department.
For her part, Natalia Abrosimova noted that their center helps international students navigate Russian laws and codes of conduct, explains their rights and responsibilities, and assists with gathering the necessary documentation. The center also offers free Russian language courses, which not only help students start speaking the language sooner but also enable them to feel more confident in general.
