Maria Arinicheva, a third-year university student and a Master of Sports of Russia in synchronized swimming, represented the Volga Region University with distinction at the "League Cup" All-Russian Student Aquatic Sports Competition.
This major tournament took place at the Ruza Aquatic Sports Palace in the Moscow Region. Athletes from 63 universities across the country participated, competing in four disciplines: swimming, water polo, diving, and synchronized swimming.
Maria competed in two solo events. She won two gold medals—one in the technical solo routine and another in the free solo routine.
Her performances were distinguished not only by flawless technique but also by striking artistic expression; her routines—"Make Way for the Girl" and "The Raven"—showcased the athlete's versatile talent.
"The League Cup was an intense event; I trained hard for it, so the victory is especially meaningful. I am grateful to the university for the opportunity to continue honing my skills in the sport. I’m glad that synchronized swimming is now included in student competitions," said Maria Arinicheva. "Right now, I’m at a training camp in Novosibirsk, preparing for the regional championship and the Russian Cup in Kaliningrad. After that, I plan to retire from competitive sports."
