Today, February 8, on the Day of Russian Science Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov visited the Federal Center for Rowing Sports of the Volga State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism. Rector of the university Rafis Burganov spoke about the activities of the university.
The visit started from the recently renovated Regata Hotel. According to the rector of the university, recently the level of the hotel was raised to 3 stars, which significantly improves the quality of services provided. The total amount of allocated funds for repairs in 2022 amounted to about 100 million rubles. In addition to the hotel, locker rooms were renovated at the Rowing Sports Center and more exercise equipment was purchased.
Of course, the main task of the university is the educational process. Rafis Burganov said that today about 3.8 thousand people study at the university in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs. The number of programs is increasing - today 46 educational programs are being implemented, including the opening of new demanded areas. By the way, in the new academic year there will be an opportunity to enter the direction of "Information Systems and Technologies", as well as programs of secondary vocational education in the field of physical culture and sports, as well as hospitality.
“13 major undergraduate and graduate programs have passed public and professional accreditation by 2026. This recognition allowed us to significantly increase the number of specialists who improve their qualifications at our University to 4,000 people in 2022. And these are not only specialists from the Republic of Tatarstan, but also from 46 other subjects of the Russian Federation. In general, students from 78 regions of the Russian Federation and 17 foreign countries study at the University,” said the rector.
According to Rafis Burganov, the university is actively working to increase recognition and attractiveness. In 2022, the university entered the Forbes ranking of the best universities in Russia - hitting the top hundred. In the ranking of the Monitoring of the effectiveness of universities, the Ministry of Science of the Russian Federation rose from 13th place among sports universities to 1.
In 2021, we created the World Skills Russia Specialized Competence Center (SCC) for Tour Operator Activities and Travel Agency Activities, which allowed us to take the second prize in the final for the second year in a row.
As for international activities, 93 foreign students from 17 countries of the world study at the University (this is 2.5 percent of the total number of students at the university). The University cooperates in the field of educational and scientific activities with 15 foreign universities and organizations.
In 2022, the University was the first university in Tatarstan and sports universities in Russia to receive a silver certificate from the FISU Healthy Campus project, which confirms the availability and safety of services.
“Along with education, upbringing is a priority task. Particular attention is paid to youth policy. It is important that all social and educational work is built together with student government activists, about 1,500 events were jointly held.
A unique project, which will be held for the 3rd time this year, is the Regional Ethnocultural Student Festival "Creativity of Peace and Harmony". Last year, more than 1,500 students involved in folk art from 16 universities of the republic took part,” said Rafis Burganov.
A separate page in the life of the university was the Humanitarian Aid Center for IDPs from the LPR and DPR, Russian servicemen, opened in March. In total, during the work of the Center, about 5 tons of humanitarian aid were collected. The center continues to function.
There is a lot of sports work going on. The University has 41 national teams in 32 sports. In the VII All-Russian Winter Universiade (5 types) they took 3rd place. In the VIII All-Russian Summer Universiade (14 events) - 2nd place. 3 teams take part in the Higher Leagues of the Championships of Russia among men's teams (volleyball, basketball, handball).
The TRP Testing Center operates on the basis of the university. Last year alone, 1,800 badges of distinction were awarded.
“Last year, the university became an experimental platform for the Ministry of Sports of Russia - they created the Center for Sports Training of Student Teams.
For the implementation of the project, 40 million rubles were allocated from the federal budget for the purchase of sports equipment for the types of sports: "academic rowing" and "swimming", - said the rector of the Volga Region University.
Speaking about the scientific activities of the sports university, Rafis Burganov spoke about the opening in 2021 on the basis of the University of the Research Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, consisting of 6 laboratories and a medical unit. Research laboratories are located on the basis of the educational and sports complex and sports facilities of the University. On the basis of the Center for Rowing Sports - 2 laboratories and a medical unit.
On an ongoing basis, the University conducts scientific and methodological support for athletes of the national teams of the Republic of Tatarstan and athletes of the Russian national teams, Arrow and Zilant rugby clubs, Sintez teams - water polo, Dynamo-Akbars - field hockey , students of sports schools in the city of Kazan.
As Deputy Director of the Research Institute Gulnara Yanysheva said, in 2022 more than 2,000 examinations of athletes and 1,200 in-depth medical examinations of athletes were carried out.
“The Research Institute has developed a technology for functional testing of the body of athletes, which includes an integrated approach to assessing the state of health, physical development, functional reserves of the body, genetic predisposition and diet, solving various age-related tasks from the beginning of a young athlete’s sports career to an adult professional level.
Research Institute employees are testing new methods for the recovery of athletes between games and competitions, the researchers have developed a program of treatment and rehabilitation "Recovery after viral infections", - said Gulnara Yanysheva.
Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov was also presented with a joint project with the University of Talents. He was told about the laboratory for assessing the functional state of a person, which conducts research on the functional support of young athletes in sports - football, volleyball, athletics, cross-country skiing, chess. The laboratory is represented by research equipment for the functional assessment of the body's performance, morphological and psychophysiological indicators, the assessment of the function of balance and coordination of movements, the assessment of strength, speed, and endurance of the body.
In the gym of the Center for Rowing Sports, Rustam Minnikhanov was shown a mobile functional complex "Become a Champion" on the basis of which a methodology for assessing predisposition to a sport, the physical development of a child and the functional state of the body was developed. It allows coaches and parents to give recommendations in which sport the child is more successful in everyday life and what level of physical development and body condition he has at the moment.
