Forbes included the Volga Region University of Sport and Tourism in its ranking of the top 100 universities in Russia.

All participants of the list met three mandatory conditions: Russian accreditation and, as a consequence, the possibility to issue state diplomas, the number of students of at least 100 people, and the availability of bachelor or specialist programmes. Branches, religious and military higher education institutions, as well as institutions offering only postgraduate programmes, were not included in the ranking.

In calculating the ranking data were used from the Monitoring of Higher Education Institutions of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, the results of a survey of the top 100 employers in Russia and data from public sources.

Universities were evaluated according to five metrics: demand for graduates, quality of networking, quality of teaching, international reputation, and the Forbes factor.
