The first All-Russian scientific and practical conference with international participation "The state, problems and ways of improving sports and wellness training in water sports" opened today at the Volga Region University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism. The event was held within the framework of the All-Russian swimming competitions "The Cup of the Rector of the Volga University", which are also held for the first time on the basis of the university.

Representatives of 12 cities of Russia are taking part in the conference: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Krasnodar, Kirov, Sochi, Omsk, Voronezh, Smolensk, Yaroslavl, Naberezhnye Chelny, Tchaikovsky, as well as from 5 cities abroad.

The scientific and practical conference began with a plenary session. The rector of the Volga Region University Rafis Burganov addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.

"The conference is being held for the first time on the basis of the university and we will make every effort to ensure that this event is held annually and a large number of athletes, specialists in water sports are gathered within the walls of the Volga Region University. Kazan can be a modern platform that has all the necessary conditions for both interregional and international development and cooperation," Rafis Burganov said.

The Minister of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan Vladimir Leonov, in turn, recalled how important it is to maintain communication with international federations and announced the international swimming, synchronized swimming and diving competitions "Friendship Games", which from July to December 2022 will be hosted by Kazan on the basis of the Palace of Water Sports.

"The agenda is very interesting and the day promises to be very busy. It is very important that we were able to maintain a balance between scientific and competitive activities, a lot is connected with science in sports. Tatarstan and Kazan are a landmark place for swimmers, synchronized swimmers, water polo players and divers, and we are pleased that in such a difficult time we are in active communication with our international partners," Vladimir Leonov added.

The conference participants were also welcomed by Irek Zinnurov, two-time Olympic medalist, Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Eduard Nechaev, Executive Director of the All-Russian Sports and Sports Public Organization "Student Swimming League", and Nellie Filippova, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation on diving.

Within the framework of the plenary session, reports on the problems of the development of water sports were presented and current trends in improving sports and wellness training were discussed. The conference program provides for the work of sections devoted to the psychological, pedagogical and physical-health aspects of training, as well as the theory and methodology of sports training in water sports.
