The lecture "Every drop is important" dedicated to the World Donor Day was held today at the Volga Region University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism. The head of the blood transfusion department of the Republican Clinical Hospital Rushania Khairullina told about what it is like to be a donor and why it is so important.

"Donation is not for the sake of money, it is at the call of the heart. Donor blood is not synthesized, it cannot be bought anywhere, but it is regularly needed by those who are fighting for their lives. Every year, a ton of liters of blood are transfused only in the republican clinical hospital and this helps to save many lives," Rushania Khairullina explained to the audience.

At the meeting, students and teachers were told what contraindications there are, who can become a donor and what social role donation plays. An example was the words of the head of the information resource center of the university Yulia Zubkova, who regularly donates blood. "I'm doing this because one day it will save someone's life. After donating blood, I feel good and calmly go to work, although, of course, everything is individual. But I think that small ailments are worth it to at least try to help people and maybe even save lives," Yulia Zubkova shared her personal experience.

World Donor Day was approved in 2005 during the World Health Assembly and was timed to coincide with the birthday of Karl Landsteiner (1868-1943). It is worth noting that every year in Tatarstan 33 thousand people donate blood to help patients. Of these, 32% are people aged 18-24 years, 42% are 25-34 years old, 15% are 35-44 years old and 11% of blood donors are 45-60 years old. 70% of donors in the republic are men, and 30% are women.
