The Decade of Science and Technology and the Year of Scientific and Technological Development in the Republic of Tatarstan serve as a great source of inspiration for students and staff of Povolzhsky University. Within the framework of these events, the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics together with the Department of Information Systems, Technologies and Fijital Sports organised and held a contest of articles "Scientific Start" among the university students.

The objectives of the competition are to support and stimulate the research activities of students, to create conditions for the expression of their intellectual potential and to improve the quality of students' research training. A total of 51 applications were submitted by representatives of eleven departments of various fields - from the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology to the Department of Theory and Methodology of Skiing, Golf and Shooting Sports. 

The works of the contestants were evaluated by members of expert commissions in two areas: humanitarian and natural science, headed by Zoya Pavitskaya, Acting Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics, and Alexander Vasilets, Acting Head of the Department of Information Systems, Technologies and Fijital Sports.

Alsu Akhmetova (supervisor - Evgeniya Usmanova) took the first place in the contest of articles in the humanitarian direction, and Anastasia Pomortseva (supervisor - Lyubov Botova) became the strongest in the natural-science direction.

The awarding ceremony was attended by Elena Semenova, Head of the Scientific and Methodological Department, Rezeda Khadiullina, Director of the International Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism, Zoya Pavitskaya, Acting Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics, and Alexander Vasilets, Head of the Department of Information Systems, Technologies and Fijital Sports.
