Following the large-scale sports portion of the "Healthy Environment" program, first-year students at Volga Region University attended a lecture entitled "Extremist Ideologies in Russia: Prevention and Counteraction" presented by the Russian Society "Knowledge." The lecturer was Oleg Agapov, Advisor to the Rector of the Timiryasov Kyiv National University and an expert with the Tatarstan Public Chamber.
The students deepened their theoretical understanding of the concept of "extremism," learned about the history of extremist movements in Russia, and learned the most important thing: how to resist negative influences.
"After this lecture, students should remember that they shouldn't get carried away with one-sided explanations of social reality. There are many contradictions, so it's important to develop political and legal literacy rather than rely on ideologies that offer easy explanations. And, of course, we must resist such ideologies and prevent extremism.
I believe that one of the best methods of prevention is studying the social sciences and humanities: history, sociology, political science, and law. Because with a good knowledge of these disciplines, one can understand that any social problem can be addressed through legal mechanisms, not through armed coups and terrorist attacks," Oleg Agapov emphasized.
He noted that the lecture is especially useful for first-year students, who are emerging from the care of their parents and have a strong desire for social justice but little life experience. It's important for them to understand that social sciences and humanities are not an add-on, but rather a guide to understanding history and real social contradictions and resolving them legally.
