Rector of the Volgograd State University of Physical Education Rafis Burganov took part in the anniversary events of the Volgograd State Academy of Physical Education.

Rafis Burganov, Rector of the Volgograd University of Sports and Tourism, took part in a gala event celebrating the 65th anniversary of the Volgograd State Academy of Physical Education and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Stalingrad Technical School of Physical Education. It was with this branch of the Volgograd Academy that the history of the Volga Region University, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, began.

Students, faculty, staff, and graduates gathered to congratulate the university. The celebration was joined by the heads of universities under the jurisdiction of the Russian Ministry of Sport, distinguished guests, and representatives of regional and city executive and legislative authorities.

The history of the Volgograd Academy of Physical Education began with the establishment of the Stalingrad Technical School of Physical Education in 1925 – the second in the USSR after the Moscow Technical School. The technical school trained instructors and coaches, accepting applicants with a seven-year education after passing rigorous standards. Over the years, the educational institution has produced a constellation of outstanding specialists, including honored coaches, champions, professors, and sports organizers, becoming an important training ground for professionals and laying the foundation for the future. In 1960, the technical school was transformed into the Stalingrad Institute of Physical Culture, which received academy status in 1996.

The early 2000s saw the beginning of the modern phase of the revival and dynamic development of the Volgograd Academy of Physical Education, marked by a significant expansion of educational programs, an increase in student enrollment, and a major upgrade of its facilities. Classrooms, gyms, a swimming pool, a stadium, and outdoor areas were renovated and equipped with modern equipment, and information technology is now being actively implemented. The Academy has strengthened its position, as evidenced by the outstanding athletic achievements of its students and graduates, including Olympic champions.

The staff of Volga region University joins in congratulating and wishing the Volgograd Academy of Physical Education continued prosperity.
