The eighteenth International Conference "Language and the World" was held at the educational private institution Linguistic School in Moscow. More than 60 schoolchildren from different cities of Russia, as well as students from Belarus, Kazakhstan and Korea took part in the conference.
Ralina Sabirova, a college student of the Volga Region University, was among the speakers. Together with her supervisor Larisa Minina she presented a research work on the topic "Reflection of speech behaviour models in proverbs and sayings of the peoples of the world".
"The theme of the research was chosen not by chance - about the problem of deficit of live communication speak now a lot. This problem entails another one: inability to carry out successful speech communication, - commented Larisa Minina. - It seemed to us that the language material of proverbs and sayings could be rich, colourful and meaningful for research. At the beginning of our work we focused on finding small genre works of Russian and Tatar folklore, but in the course of studying the rich material we included Uzbek and English proverbs. Out of 1000 proverbs we chose those that described a speech situation. The proverbs amazed us by the fact that literally in a few words laconic and vividly presented models of speech behaviour of successful and unsuccessful communication.
The conference was held remotely via Google Meet. For the video conference we prepared a presentation, the design of which echoed the theme of the research. All the slides were puzzle pictures, because successful communication can only be achieved by choosing the right behavioural model. It is possible to put the pictures together if you choose the right puzzle. This idea was also noted by the jury members. Ralina spoke with great enthusiasm and tried to pass it to the listeners. Proverbs and sayings sounded in different languages: in Russian, in Tatar, in Uzbek and in English. Ralina consulted her classmate Arshidin Ismailov to ensure that the pronunciation in Uzbek was correct.
Ralina was so fascinated by this research that now she plans to study Chinese, Udmurt and Bashkir proverbs. I am sure that we have successful work and realisation of our creative plans ahead of us".
