The Special Olympics Unified Volleyball Tournament for schoolchildren from Kazan was recently held in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. Representatives of eight schools of the city gathered to compete for championship awards.
The tournament was organized by the Tatarstan Republican Division of Special Olympics Russia and Volga Region University of Sports and Tourism with the support of The Vladimir Potanin Charitable Foundation and Special Olympics Russia.
The winners of the tournament were representatives of the junior team "Champions" representing Kazan school No.76 for children with disabilities and Lyceum No.35 "Galaktika". Silver medals went to athletes of the Moskovsky junior team from Kazan School No.61 for Children with Disabilities and Gymnasium No.75. The third step of the podium was taken by volleyball players of the "Polet" junior team, consisting of pupils of Kazan school No 142 for children with physical disabilities and Secondary General Education School No 15. The fourth position in the final protocol was taken by players of the "Platinum" junior team that included pupils of Kazan boarding-school No.1 and gymnasium No.36.
At the end of the volleyball tournament children had an opportunity to meet the standards of the Russian national complex "Ready for Labour and Defence". And at the end of the event, participants made a mosaic-style portrait of their favourite coach. As planned by the organisers of the event, which was held within the Year of the Teacher and Mentor in Russia, the pictures will be put on display at an exhibition to be held in the academic and laboratory building of the Volga Region State University this month.
